    Emma, the closing tagline says, “PAPER has a great future,” not print.

    We finally found something truly useful paper for paper to do—and something truly worth putting on it!

    Everything that precedes the poopy punchline lampoons the obsolescence of print.

    Sorry to seem humorless, but IMHO, the cheap shot that this advertiser is taking doesn’t let print win anything except a sneer.

    Maybe it’s just me, but I thought it was funny.

    More to the point of this blog, what’s relevant isn’t whether there is anything printed on the paper. What’s important — in my view — is the lampooning of the idea that digital is a replacement for everything on paper. There are those who take the position that “e” replacement for everything “p.” This ad takes a different position, and it does it in a way that everyone can relate to.

    As with everything in advertising in marketing, if we take it took literally or try to apply it too legalistically, it doesn’t work.

    For me, it worked.

    Priceless! Be it PRINT or PAPER or PACKAGING or PRODUCE… There are some things that a PHYSICAL THING can do that cannot be replaced with ANYTHING ELSE.

    Those are the areas of PRINT that are most magical to me… places where PRINT can succeed as a Premium Product!

    (often such insight can be gained from other markets, other applications)
